Parts of me are jealous of the big-eyed, little baby in the last picture. 👨‍👧 She could feel her father’s embrace whereas I’ve been missing it for six years.

My father was kind. Athletic. Smart, yet humble. A quintessential family man who demonstrated generosity on the daily. He was never swayed by frivolous things like the amount of money someone had. I watched the same warm attention pouring out of him whether he was in the presence of parking lot attendants, pastors, CEOs, servers—everyone, really, regardless of their status or fame.

He just enjoyed people.

This is the sixth year I can only celebrate my father’s birthday by reminiscing about the memories he left behind.

But it is also the last year I am without a book that owes its existence to his. By mid-2025 @ivpress will publish a book birthed in the midst of my own loss, centered on how #internalfamilysystems can help mourners grieve wholeheartedly.
