What is Internal Family Systems? Also known as mindfulness plus, IFS provides an effective way to resolve emotional conflicts inside us.


We all have parts. These sub-personalities mean well, but they don’t always get along. For example, you might have a part which prompts you to land a better paying job. Another part discourages you from pursuing this idea by emphasizing the despair it’s afraid will consume you if you got rejected. These parts can make their presence known through bodily sensations, inner voices (like what you hear inside your head), or even physical symptoms—anything to snag your attention.

Internal conflicts happen because these bickering parts strive to promote what they believe is best for you. They work overtime to protect your exiles—which are parts that carry unwanted memories or feelings—from flooding you with difficult emotions like shame, loneliness, or abandonment.
